Disney Movies I Watch When I’m Sad

Have you ever watched a Disney movie when you’re sad and need a pick-me-up? I did that the other day. I needed a little pick-me-up and Disney was my first choice.

The movies that I tend to gravitate to when I’m sad are usually ones that make me laugh. For example, the other day I watched Ratatouille. I hadn’t seen it for a while and it made me laugh. Here are just a few of my other favorites:

Thoughts on The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

In honor of the anniversary of The Nutcracker debut on this day back in 1892, I decided to write my review of the new movie, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Julia and I decided to go with a friend a couple weeks ago. Here’s what my thoughts are…

First of all, I’m a dancer. I have a deep love for The Nutcracker ballet. I’m also a traditionalist. I don’t like it when people mess with my favorite plays/ballets/original movies/etc. Going into this movie, I sort of knew that I would have mixed feelings. I won’t lie, it was a weird movie.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Let’s start with the bad news…I wasn’t happy with the fact that they killed off Clara’s mother. I get that it made the story work better, but the story itself was strange. It really (drastically) deviated from the original plot of the Nutcracker story.

Side note-does anyone notice that Matthew Macfadyen tends to play melancholy characters? (Mr. Darcy, Athos, Sheriff of Nottingham) He does it so well!

Anyway, the storyline was just odd.

Now for the good…I loved Misty Copeland! She was beautiful and I was very excited that they put actual ballet into the movie. Clara was very entertaining and I believe that Mackenzie Foy did a great job. I loved that they put some of the Nutcracker music in the movie (but not enough in my opinion) ;).

I loved the costumes! They were amazing! The characters themselves were pretty entertaining and there was a good amount of humor throughout the movie.

I liked that they didn’t make Mother Ginger a bad guy, but I was disappointed that the Sugar Plum Fairy was bad. What happened to the Mouse King being the villain? Again, I get that it worked with the storyline they wrote, but why?

Finally, I loved that the movie was totally unpredictable! That makes a good movie.

All in all, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was an interesting take on a classic tale, however, I probably would’ve rather waited for it to come out on Amazon or Netflix.

What are your thoughts on the movie?

Have a magical Disney day,

Amanda

Avengers: Infinity War – Movie Review: Caution, There are Spoilers

So for our cousin’s birthday, they met us in Disney Springs to watch the new Marvel movie, Avengers: Infinity War. I definitely went in knowing that someone was going to die and that I probably wouldn’t like it, so I was somewhat prepared. However, nothing prepared me for how crazy that movie is.

Yes, one of my favorite characters died and that was horrible, but just the whole premise of the movie itself was so dark. Thanos is probably the darkest villain I’ve seen in any of the Marvel Avenger movies (though maybe Red Skull could come close). I was very grateful that there were moments of comic relief throughout the film which made it bearable.

Here is where the spoilers come in so please stop reading if you haven’t seen the movie! Scroll to the very bottom to see our new vlog.

Loki has always been a favorite of mine and Josh had prepared me ahead of time by telling me that he dies in the movie (I don’t really like being surprised by the death of a favorite character). That was a very sad scene and it was right at the beginning of the movie!

I loved the part that the Guardians played even though they are probably my least favorite Avengers. It was perfect that they added those characters because otherwise, the movie wouldn’t have been as funny. Thor was also great paired with them.

I loved Bruce fighting with Hulk for him to come out. That was a hilarious addition after the Ragnarok movie. As always, I loved Captain America and Black Widow! And all of the Black Panther characters were amazing!

The one thing I didn’t understand was why didn’t they cut off Thanos’ arm when they were trying to pull off his glove-thing? That would’ve been the most logical solution would it not? I get they need to make it dramatic but come on!

Other than Cap’ and Black Widow, Spiderman was my favorite character. Though I never thought I’d say this, I love Spiderman. He is one of the greatest characters and I look forward to another Spiderman movie.

Overall, the movie was fine. I’d watch it again mainly for the humor, but I will probably either close my eyes or walk out of the room when Loki dies. Let’s see what happens to end it all.

What are your thoughts on the movie?

Did you come to similar conclusions?

Have a magical day,

Amanda

Upcoming Disney Movies You Must See!

Disney is constantly putting out new movies and we are in for a few really great ones in the next few years. Here are some that I know our family is particularly looking forward to (and some we’re not)! Check out the trailers by clicking on the movie descriptions.

MV5BMjMxNjY2MDU1OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzY1MTUwNTM@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,674,1000_AL_Avengers: Infinity War

The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

We love the Avengers movies! I believe that we’ve seen every single one in the MCU series. We’ve all recently seen the newest movie, Black Panther and liked it. Avengers: Infinity War is highly anticipated, however, I am worried that some of my favorite characters will be killed off (please not Cap.!) so I’m a little on the fence. Nonetheless, I am going to watch it anyway.

MV5BOTMyNTA4OTEwMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjMxODE4NDM@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,674,1000_AL_Incredibles 2

Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is left to care for Jack-Jack while Helen (Elastigirl) is out saving the world.

Disney fans have waited for this movie for years and it’s finally here! I am thrilled to have another Incredibles movie. We will totally be seeing this one when it comes out!

MV5BMjM1NDEzMzgxMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzg5NTk2NDM@._V1_SY1000_SX675_AL_Ant-Man and the Wasp

As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past.

Okay, so you know we’re huge superhero fans, so we are pretty excited about this one as well. Ant-Man was probably the funniest MCU movie and it looks like the sequel will be just as funny. Very excited!

A working-class family man, Christopher Robin, encounters his childhood friend Winnie-the-Pooh, who helps him to rediscover the joys of life.

I love Winnie the Pooh! This movie looks interesting. I’m intrigued but will probably not see it in the theater. It should be a sweet movie.

A young girl is transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.

I have to admit that I hated the idea of this movie when I first saw it. Nobody can mess with the ballets! However, it looks interesting and I will watch it because I’m intrigued to see how they tell the story.

MV5BMTY4MjYzOTc1NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMTkyNzU5NDM@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,674,1000_AL_Mary Poppins Returns

In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Nothing will replace Julie Andrews as the original Mary Poppins. Like most sequels with different actors, I’m a little wary of how this movie will turn out. I guess we shall see.

Really? I didn’t even like the 3rd installment of this series. Did anyone else find it uber depressing and evil? I mean, come on, the toys were almost burned to death. To be honest, I think they should’ve stopped after the first. I guess I’m just not a fan.

Frozen 2

We all knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. The hit movie, Frozen is now in for a sequel. I’m curious to see how they’ll continue the story, though I’d rather have a Tangled 2 instead ;). I’d also prefer to see the Broadway play instead of the second movie.

There are other movies that have been announced for 2019 including, Dumbo, another Indiana Jones movie, Cruella, Lion King, and Aladdin. For now, I think we’ll be pretty busy for the next year keeping up with the great movies that Disney has in store for us.

What movies are you most excited for?

What are your thoughts on the sequels coming our way?

I hope you have a magical Disney day pals,

Amanda
